IMAGINARY dùng chỉ cái gì đó là ảo, không thật. (nghĩa tiêu cực)

Ngược lại, IMAGINATIVE lại chỉ tính sáng tạo, trí tưởng tượng bay bổng. (nghĩa tích cực)

IMAGINABLE là một từ khác đặc biệt khi có thể đứng cuối câu, đứng sau danh từ, chỉ những thứ trong tầm tưởng tượng của con người.

Sau đây là bảng từ loại của các tính từ này

1. IMAGINARY /ɪˈmadʒɪn(ə)ri/

IMAGINARY có nghĩa là ảo, do tưởng tượng, không có thực (created by and exists only in the mind, lacking factual reality).

Synonym: unreal, visionary, shadowy, chimerical, baseless, illusory, nonexistent, fictional, mythical, mythological, fabulous, fantastic, etc.

Ví dụ:

2. IMAGINATIVE /ꞮˈMADƷꞮNƏTꞮV/

IMAGINATIVE lại mang nghĩa tích cực, nghĩa là sáng tạo, hoặc có trí tưởng tượng phong phú. (Having or showing creativity or inventiveness/ of, relating to, or characterized by imagination)

Synonym: creative, visionary, inspired, inventive, resourceful, ingenious, etc.

Ví dụ:

Making imaginative use of computer software.

3. IMAGINABLE /ꞮˈMADƷꞮNƏB(Ə)L/

Đuôi –able thêm vào từ bô sung ý nghĩa “có thể” cho từ gốc. IMAGINABLE có nghĩa là có thể tưởng tượng ra được, có thê tin được (Possible to be thought of or believed/ capable of being imagined).

Ngoài ra, cần lưu ý rằng “imaginable” thường được dùng với ALL, EVERY, EACH, và CÂU SO SÁNH HƠN NHẤT nhằm nhấn mạnh cái gì đó là tốt nhất trong những lựa chọn có thể.

Khác với 2 tính từ trên, IMAGINABLE có thể đứng cuối câu theo sau danh từ mà nó bổ nghĩa.

Synonym: conceivable thinkable, supposable, believable, credible, creditable, etc.
